MONOM is pleased to present HUBRIS premiere in 4DSOUND on 18, 19 & 20 of September. Hubris is a feature film written, directed and produced by Marie Polo. At the crossing between art, performance, music and cinema HUBRIS will be screened in MONOM Studio spatialized by Shehryar Ahmad accompanying the acousmatic music performance by Marie Polo & Paul Behnam featuring actors of the movie. Visitors will embark on a deep inner sensorial journey and a collective catharsis through visual, sound, smell, touch & taste. It is a cinematic introspection with a strong ritualistic dimension.
Shot during 4 years between Berlin and the Fontainebleau Forest near Paris, the film is about the healing process of a young woman - Alice - who experienced a traumatic experience she does not have any visual memory of. The film is structured as a sophrology session during which the audience enters different layers of body memory of Alice, going back and forth between the present and the nightmarish visions of her past trauma.
The sound design and original score of the film is written and performed by Paul Behnam. Throughout the 22 tracks of the album, he navigates effortlessly between ambient, modern classical, rock, funk, house and techno, unveiling his versatility and his talent for translating emotions into music. Even without the images, the story of Alice unfolds inside your ears throughout an hour of eerie, exhilarating and relaxing pieces of music.
The soundtrack also features a collaboration with electronic music mad dog San Proper (Perlon, Rush Hour), playing his own role in the film and singing on « Dr. Proper ». Italian pianist and lyricist Andrea Monticciolo delivers a moving performance on « Oma Ooh Salem », while Louis McGuire and pandeiro player Adriano Tikogo invites us to a gloomy dance on Pandeiro Show.
After HUBRIS, MONOM is pleased to present ''The Rainbow Machine", an immersive installation with both sound & moving images. It was born from the electro-acousmatic piece composed by Paul Behnam, with a similar name, translated in French : “La Machine Arc-en-ciel”. It is the result of a collaboration between Paul Behnam and the painter Alexandre Tanqueray who then created a series of graphic works based on the sound composition. This series was later on adapted and fused within another audio-visual form, closer to an animation film thanks to the work of Jan Luis Gottwald.
The Rainbow Machine is a journey towards the colourful skies, onboard an imaginary flying vehicle. The rainbow colours symbolise emotions and traits of humankind. The different archetypes one can face within a life. The Machine embodies the desire for power, society and the madness it can generate.
Current hygiene regulations are in effect for the duration of the screening.
Filming, recording and photography are not allowed in MONOM Studio
