Monom present

Summer of Music:  Vol III

With live and sound installation by Echo Collective,  Mischa Tangian "Water" performed by Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) conducted by Vladimir Jurowski

sound installations, Soundworks & more

On July 9 we will have the pleasure of presenting for the first time in our studio Echo Collective, a diversegroup of classically trained musicians based in Brussels, Belgium.

The collective will be working for a week in our studio to compose a new spatial piece in collaboration with Tilo Von Ketelhodt, spatial sound engineer from Monom Studios.

Neil Leiter, describe’s what moved him, Margaret Hermant & Fabien Leseure to explore and create with the 4DSOUND composition instrument.

‘We have a long established interest in physical space, and how that physical space impacts creation and interaction.  And as musicians, we constantly search for new ways to share our creative energy.  Our goal at Monom Studios is to juxtapose these two questions.  How will this space inspire us to create?  And, how will this moment of creation be archived and experienced in the future?  Monom offers an unparalleled opportunity to find new answers to these fundamental questions.  As a color palette, we plan on combining prerecorded textures with live violin, viola and harp featuring Echo Collective's founding members, Margaret Hermant and Neil Leiter, along with sound shaper Fabien Leseure’

Before each session we will continue to feature a Recalibration by Soundworks to tune in your senses. This moment will serve to sharpen our attention and in particular our ability to listen more deeply, to listen with the whole body. Also, during every session we will present sound installations of excerpts from Mensch, Music! #3 – Hotspot Earth concert performed during "Earth Day" by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) under the extraordinary baton of Vladimir Jurowski. During each session you'll be able to hear classic compositions like never before thanks to the large-scale system made up of 57 omnidirectional speakers at the heart of Monom Studios. We will exhibit "Water" by Mischa Tangian.

About the artists:

Echo Collective

Founded by Neil Leiter and Margaret Hermant, Brussels-based Echo Collective have forged in only a few years an enviable reputation in the post-classical world: sought out for their instrumental and arranging expertise by icons such as A Winged Victory For The Sullen and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, or lending their interpretative intuition to genres as diverse as alt.rock, synth-pop and black metalm Echo Collective are equally inspired creators, using their past accomplishments as a springboard to a new, illuminating vision. Echo Collective was conceived when Margaret Hermant and Neil Leiter collaborated with Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O’Halloran’s A Winged Victory For The Sullen. The American-born Leiter was introduced to Wiltzie by their mutual friend, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and musician Caroline Shaw. Since this inception, Leiter, and Belgian violinist and harpist Hermant, has gone on to perform as Echo Collective in venues such as Royal Albert Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and L’Auditori Barcelona, as well as festivals such as Latitude, Big Ears, ATP, La Route du Rock, Eurosonic, Reeperbahn and Primavera.

Mischa Tangian

The Moscow-born composer Mischa Tangian gained his first musical experience as a violinist with various orchestras (including the Federal Youth Orchestra), concerts and competitions. While still at school, he was a junior student in the subjects violin and piano at the universities of Dortmund, Münster and most recently in Cologne.

Mischa Tangian is currently a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Bank Foundation's Academy of Music Theater Today and is working on a new music theater for the Hamburg State Opera. As part of the orchestral workshop with Toshio Hosokawa at the Manifeste Festival 2017 in Paris, the new orchestral piece Introduction to an Urban Dance Suite will be performed by the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Pierre Andre Valade.
