MONOM PRESENTS: SOUND SCULPTURES W/ REZO KIKNADZE & MESS MONTAGE

On September 12th, we have a very exciting Sound Sculpture Gallery event coming up. MONOM will be revisiting a past collaboration with the label Tessaract, within MONOM's new format.

Through its Sound Sculpture Gallery MONOM offers listeners time and space to be in communal silence, free from distractions, enveloped within its 57 omnidirectional speakers 4DSOUND system. A rare space for deep introspection and reflection, a place for challenging and altering perceptions, internal and external.

The 2-hour sessions will showcase two intimate and profound sound experiences created by our past artists in residence RESO KIKNADZE and MESS MONTAGE

Due to the incredible reception we have received for our Sound Sculpture Gallery weekends, we are opening an additional late-night session: Saturdays & Sundays from 22:00 to 24:00.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

  • Saturday's 4th and 5th session will give access to a live listening session by Tessaract until 4 am.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

RESO KIIKNADZE was born and raised in the notorious 1960s of Tbilisi, Georgia. After finishing his classical philology studies at the Tbilisi State University, the phase of television appearances with a big band and several festival shows amongst the Tbilisi Conservatory Quintet quickly followed. Making his first and most important compositional development under Micheil Shugliashvili (1941-1996).

Furthermore he studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, composition and Georgian traditional music, and was a founding member of the improvisation ensemble "Nuova Sonanza", collaborated with Butoh dance company 'Tatoeba - Theatre Dance Grotesque" and been awarded composition prizes such as 'Marie-Louise-Imbusch-Stiftung' in 1993, and 'Neue Akademie Braunschweig' 1997, continued with MA studies at Musikhochschule Lübeck and started 2000 a collaboration with the contemporary dance company ‘TanzOrt Nord’ („Maria Magdalena“, „Cumulus“ and „DisTanz“).

From 2008 on he became an assistant professor at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, whilst still teaching Electronics at the Musikhochschule Lübeck as well as saxophone and improvisation at the Lübecker Musikschule. Returning most of his activities back to Georgia from 2011 on, and becoming Rector of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire for last 8 years, Kiknadze’s current life continues in various formations of jazz, contemporary music, free improvisation, both as saxophone-player and computer musician; he is co-author in many projects including dance, visual arts, poetry, theater, with at least the same intensity as before. Having him perform with Mess_Montage on the unique 4DSOUND of MONOM should merge any audiophile's dreams with nowadays technical reality.

MESS MONTAGE is an experimental electronic music project by the Berlin based Georgian composer, performer and educator Tornike Margvelashvili. He merges folk chant inspired drone-y soundscapes with atmospheric field recordings and minimalist modular synthesis. After teaching electronic music at several institutions in Tbilisi, he was an official participant of the Red Bull Music Academy 20th anniversary camp in Berlin. In 2019 he decided to make his Berlin move, where he currently studies Sound Arts at UDK.
